Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster

English is not my native language. My first time with Final Fantasy I, I barely learned to read at school, and my brother put a bunch of NES roms on the family computer, most of them in English. Luckily for me, most of the games never asked a high level of reading and understanding at that time, not luckily for me, Final Fantasy wasn’t part of this. I lunched the game because I liked the name. It sounds fun! Even if I didn’t understand English, I did understand Final Fantasy as a name. I liked the music very much. I was also very unable to get past the character selection screen. When I finally understood how to do it, I created a full party of white mages, because I had no clue what a white mage is and what I was doing, but I really liked their look! So I wanted four of them! Suffice it to say that I did suffer and never got past the first town.

I did play it properly later in life. And even later, I played the pixel remaster of it. I am not too nostalgic of the first Final Fantasies, so the pixel remaster was a great way to experience all the good part of the game without having to deal with the bad parts. I do find the farming unpleasant, and the dungeons annoying to navigate. The pixel remaster let’s you configure experience, gives you maps and so on. So it doesn’t overstay its welcome and you can still see the beginning of one of the most beloved video game franchises. I suffered through the original one once, I wouldn’t have done it twice. It is very much a product of its time, with its ups and downs, and I’m past this since at least ten years. The music, though, already went hard.
