Pilgrims
If you’re into indie games, you’ve heard about Amanita Designs. When indie games where new and hot, they did some point-and-clicks that I consider know some indie game classics, such as Samarost, Machinarium or Botanicula. They are a Czech studio, and I like that you can see the cultural influence. There is something about all their games that reminds me of some childhood cartoons that I watched as a child and were from East Europe.
I’ve played almost all of their games at 100%, but I never did this with Pilgrims and I figured I could to this now. The game is not long, but it will require four playthroughs or so to get all the achievements. The mechanic is fun, you’re playing card instead of point and click to interact with the people and the objects. Even your characters are cards that you play on the environment to see what they will do with it. The story is absurd and grotesque, the art style great, it may not be Amanita’s best game, but it sure has its charm and humour.
There is also a board game based on the game now.
