Hannah Kaner – Sunbringer (Fallen Gods)
The second book in the Fallen Gods series. And as much as I was curious in the first book about the world and the lore, this book was a let down (spoiler: the 3rd book is so even more). Kaner doesn’t seem to do much with what she has. It lacks ambition, the writing it sometimes ok, often times bad. One can see the plot twist from miles away, and there Kaner doesn’t expend much on the world and lore there is, though what is in there is very nice. I really liked the idea that a persone can somehow become a god, because people would pray and which on their down and a god will be born in the liking of the person that has been honoured. Really neat. At this point, and still think that this could have been a great trilogy with more care applied on every level. There really is a gem in there that Kane was not interested getting to. It feels very “booktok” in the bad way. But hey, if she just wanted to write a snack-fantasy book to be read without a brain, that, kuddos to her, really. We do need those kind of books too. She just clearly has all the tools to do so much more.
